Seems Like The Biggest Parking Lot In Europe: Hilton Nuremberg: on Trip Advisor
During our ten-day driving trip of Germany and Austria last summer we were getting used to squeezing our rented Ford Mondeo into tiny spaces. In Potsdam we ended up parking in a fire lane behind the motel because the parking lot was too tiny and the underground parking garage too dangerous. In Weimar it was like Colonial Williamsburg. Everything was pedestrian-friendly. The car ended up underground. But here on the outskirts of Nuremberg we had all the room we could desire and more. There was room not only for cars but buses, too --- tourists and locals alike. It was easy to load and unload the suitcases from our car. I can only speculate why this came about. Since this is the closest hotel to the Nazi Party Rally Grounds, perhaps the former National Socialists were using it as a parking lot, too!
Inside the large, fortress-like building (another similarity to the nearby Rally Grounds, making one wonder about the age of the building and its original use) we encountered an eccentric custom. The front desk had locked the door to the second floor rooms. So I had to walk up the staircase and have my husband or my son go up on the elevator and open the door for me. On the way down this crazy system didn't apply.
We had dinner in the hotel coffee shop. The bacon lettuce and tomato sandwiches were excellent. But what was most memorable believe it or not were the toothpicks. They were in the shape of swords! It was a nice European touch, and to this day I keep the souvenirs in my china cabinet back home in Tucson, Arizona.
Note:I liked the second floor. It was the closest floor with bedrooms to the lobby with the restaurant where we ate dinner and breakfast.
